| Hello Dog_lovers! My name is Suki and I've been lurking for a while but I thought it was about time to stop being rude and introduce myself. I live in Edinburgh with my SO and our new furbaby Loki, I say new we adopted him from a woman who rescued a beautiful Northern Inuit named Saskia who went onto season 3 days before her first dog Rio a border collie was nuertered...... A happy mistake bringing 10 gorgeous pups and bringing us Loki.

| So, a few days ago I posted about a big chinese dinner my Mom and I are doing together for the extended family, and got great advice. Well, the menu's been updated with the addition of wonton soup, so I thought I'd post my method of doing it.

| This was my first time attempting a real meal in a crock. I'd used one earlier this year, throwing some chicken and broth and whatever I had in it just to try it out, and it kept turning off in the middle of the cooking process, and I returned the crock and never got a new one. Sad. However, my new roomie has a giant oval crock so last night at midnight I decided to have a roast extravaganza.

| Growing up, chocolate pudding was a staple in my home and one of my favorite comfort foods. Making pudding from a box, stirring it slowly over the stove is one of my earliest memories of food. Now a bit older and wiser, I know that the real thing is so much better! You can’t beat the smooth, velvety texture and rich creamy flavor. You’ll likely have many of these ingredients on hand. Why settle for preservatives when you can easily make the real thing? I like it served warm in a bowl with a nice dollop of freshly whipped cream on top. It’s a simple, year-round dessert. Chocolate Pudding
Adapted from Joy of Baking
Ingredients:- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/3 cup high quality cocoa powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream or half n half
- 4 large egg yolks
- 4 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
- 1 1/2 teaspoons high quality vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, room temperature (cut into small pieces)
In a large stainless steel bowl whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, cocoa powder, and salt. Then whisk in 1/2 cup of the milk until you have a thick paste. Add the egg yolks, one at a time, whisking to blend into the cocoa paste mixture. Set aside while you heat the milk and cream. Have a fine medium-sized strainer and bowl ready near the stove as you will need to strain the pudding after it is cooked.
Pour in the remaining 2 cups of milk with the cream into a medium-sized heavy saucepan . Bring this mixture just to a boil and then remove from heat. (The milk will foam up to the top of pan when done, so watch carefully.) Gradually pour the milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly, until the mixture is smooth. Transfer the pudding mixture to a clean large, heavy bottomed saucepan and place over medium-low heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens to the consistency of mayonnaise. Remove from heat and pour through the strainer to remove any lumps that may have formed during cooking.
Add the finely chopped chocolate, vanilla extract, and butter, stirring gently with a rubber spatula until the mixture is smooth. Pour into 6 to 8 bowls. Can serve warm or if chilling, press plastic wrap onto the surface of the warm puddings to prevent a skin from forming. | comments: Leave a comment |
| We had a friend visit us a couple of days ago, and had an impromptu chocolate tasting session - we bought a ridiculous amount of different flavoured chocolate in Germany a while ago, and it was a good time to share it.
Some flavours were good, some less so. But the one that truly stuck out was the Zaabar sage flavoured chocolate. Although it lacked a little something....and then we looked at the hard goat cheese on the table, and at each other, and at the chocolate....
The combination of dark chocolate, sage and goat's cheese is phenomenal. Aside from making a pretty unusual cheese course, I now want to combine these flavours in a dish, but I'm not sure the world is ready for it...and I'm not really sure what could be created! Any suggestions? | comments: 15 comments or Leave a comment |
| Mmmmkay, so, I've seen a few Thanksgiving posts in the last week or so, but I don't know that I've seen this particular question.
What is your BEST classic Thanksgiving recipe? You know the classics: stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc. How do you prepare it?
In other words, share your ULTIMATE Thanksgiving menu, with recipes, please!
(Oh, and, you know, help a girl out here - I'm hosting Thanksgiving for the first time ever, and my family has never really had much of my cooking, other than a side dish here and there, so I'd really love to totally blow them away.) | comments: 6 comments or Leave a comment |

Our family dog, Baby, has left us to go be with her sisters in heaven. I'm a little in shock right now. She hasn't been right since my dog Happy died in December (her buddy). But I guess we couldn't bring ourselves to realize that. ( More ) | comments: 6 comments or Leave a comment |
| I've been searching for my hubby's boots that he needs since I left WA. The place there that normally carries them doesn't carry that size anymore. I just figured I'll order some where online. Well after some time of not being able to find the boot type, I finally did. But so many places are backordered for his size. Ugh, why does he have to have such big duck feet, lol. I love his duck feet. I just feel bad I may not be able to find his boots and he'll have to settle. He goes through military boots so fast and of course they don't give Infantry a higher clothing allowance based on the fact they actually use their stuff up faster, oh well. | comments: Leave a comment |

| I posted this a few days ago asking about mysterious itching.
Well, after a doctor's visit, it has been determined that it is scabies. After doing some research it doesn't seem like too bad a thing unless it's not treated, but now we start the treatment and we have to wash everything and spray down surfaces.
So since quite a few of you know the situation might have been in one like that at one point, what products do you recommend besides the medication that help with getting rid of these things? Bug Spray? Special Detergent?
Thanks! | comments: 8 comments or Leave a comment |
| Hello Hipsters!
A while back I bought a shower curtain that I absolutely love. However, I did not realize it's 100% Polyester and that it is Dry Clean Only. The shower curtain has these smudges/stains that I am sure is from conditioner/shampoo/soap residue. Even if it's Dry Clean Only, can I just throw it in the washer and then hang dry? Or do I have to spot treat it.
If need be, I can take a picture of the spots so you can see. | comments: 8 comments or Leave a comment |
| I am looking for a fairly simple lowish fat dense/chewy vanilla cake with lots of eggs(*). In my head it's almost like crispy-edged solid custard, but I'm not sure that's possible.
Sponge cake is too fluffy, brownies have chocolate (which I can't eat, woe), tend to be fatty, and aren't quite right anyway. French toast, waffles and pancakes can be ok but I'm hoping for cake.
Also: I can't eat dairy (or soy), so while I can substitute milk or butter the chemical properties of say buttermilk are not available.
Google has failed me, you're my only hope!
(*)I know eggs are kind of fatty, but I really like the taste and for some reason they don't irritate my stomach as much as oil/margarine. Also I usually don't like the taste or texture of cakes made with lots of oil/butter/margarine. | comments: 14 comments or Leave a comment |

| But...I AM being good mommy.

Noah has decided that yesterday was the day to be a naughty little boy. Starting with the morning, it's been nothing but nipping and mouthing me when he's trying to play. (of course, I've been saying "ouch!" and leaving the room).
He's nearing four months, so I know that's some of the issue, and I've been training with him everyday, playing with him everyday, socializing him almost everyday. (between my being sick lately, and it's been raining a lot, we don't get out at much as I'd like) He's starting to investagate more and isn't really interested in his toys like he used to be, tug of war, fetch or find it. I really think he's getting bored. Is there any toys or games you guys suggest? (I'm discovering he really doesn't like it when I take a toy to play fetch with. Sometimes he'll nip if he's in my lap and I take the toy to throw it)
He just graduated puppy preschool, (yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy) and I'm so proud of him! However, I'm so glad puppy intermedate starts next week, lol.
In other news, Noah got a new haircut and the groomer made him look like a poodle (I said puppy cut, not poodle cut hahahahaha) even though he's part cocker spaniel and now looks like a ewalk from Star Wars.
( i look like bon jovi.. )
I can't stay mad long. | comments: 8 comments or Leave a comment |
